1. down(adv.):to or toward a point away from the speaker or the speaker's point of reference=>作副詞用，相當於中文的”在…..那邊”，請注意down不只是up的反意，它常用於指示離說話者參考點的一個地點或方向，如本句Down by the station
2. by the station=>副詞片語，火車站旁
3. Down by the station=>”在那火車站旁邊”
4. 另例Down by the Salley gardens my love and I did meet;.這是葉慈的詩Down by the Salley Gardens的一句。意即：在莎麗花園那兒，我與愛人相遇

這個童謠已經超過100年，因此對puffer belly這個字已沒有絕對公論，很可能小孩子還不識字，會有很多誤用的近音字，比較被人接受的說法是puffer belly乃"PUFF AND BELLER" (or "Puff and Bellow")都是以聲音來形容蒸汽老火車，像中國小孩會說ㄑㄧㄑㄧㄆㄥㄆㄥ
我也從圖書館借了一本「Dwon by the station」書，裡面有很多段落，聰明頭因為對這首歌很有興趣，一直問我後面的怎麼唱@@，我只好出動Google翻譯，點過去再按喇叭圖示，再參考發音。
